Babies stink, there’s just no getting around it and right now my son is particularly feral – he’s teething, getting his bottom canine teeth and we are dealing with gas mask levels of toxification. To add insult to injury the poor mite has a teething nappy burn that will not quit and we’ve had to shelve his cloth nappies for a while in favour of eco-disposables and lashings of barrier cream.
Usually I rinse a dirty nappy and then pop it in a wetbag until the evening when everything gets tipped into the washing machine but that’s just not an option with disposable nappies and since I don’t want to be running out to the bin all day, disposables get bagged and put in the garage where thanks to the SE QLD heat they generally stink up the place.
We rarely use disposables but we do use disposable wipes so even when we’re using fulltime cloth we have nappy change by-products to throw away so one of the things I thought was a must-have was one of those nappy disposal systems to ‘eliminate smell’. I wasn’t impressed with the one we bought, finding that the smell got through anyway so when I was asked to review the Munchkin Nappy Disposal System I was apprehensive but intrigued.
The Munchkin Nappy Disposal System contains my favourite household tool – bicarb, used for everything from dishwashing to cleaning the floors I think bicarb is magic, we keep some in the fridge to absorb smells and it’s this wonderful property that helps contain the stink of dirty nappies. Every time you close the lid of the Munchkin Nappy Disposal System, a shake of bicarb from the cartridge in the lid disperses on top of the dirty nappy, helping to keep smells at bay.
We’ve had the chance to use the Munchkin Nappy Disposal System both as part of our usual cloth routine and as part of the last week of eye-watering stench and I’m impressed. During usual use it takes us over a week to fill up the Refill Bag and we didn’t notice any smells until we changed the bag and it was a much more muted smell than we’d experienced with the other unit we have owned. This past week the unit has struggled a bit but nowhere near as much as I expected it to, some smell has got through when opening the unit but it has been nowhere near the eye watering experience change time is at the moment.
Available online at www.babynest.com.au and from Target and Baby Bunting stores Australia wide, the Munchkin Nappy Disposal Unit retails for $79.99 and comes with 3 refill bags and a full cartridge of bicarb which lasts for 90 days and can be refilled with your household bicarb. Refill bags hold up to 25 newborn nappies and a pack of 10 retails at around $21.99 but if you buy 3 or more refills at BabyNest you get 25% off and from now until the 30th of September spend $100 or more at BabyNest and receive a $35 discount using code PRBLOG

Stinkiest baby change moment …. three words ‘Too Much Cabbage’ – soo disgusting – lol!!!
Baby change moments have always been worst when bub is sick so not only contending with stinky poos but runny, extremely stinky poos!
On Bamboo Babies I love the organic bamboo cuski. I love seeing a toddler snuggle up to their favourite sleeping toy, so peaceful and relaxed.
On Ecocubs the Munchee Mugs look like the perfect solution to my toddler accidentally flinging snacks all over the house.

I hate the moments were #3′s occur (like the add on TV) and you have to change the child and all their clothes and whatever else they touched! Even worse with morning sickness!

Stinkiest bum change – There was a post banana bread ‘number 3′ That went up his back. It was that horrid that I chose to cut his singlet off him, rather than trying to pull it up and over his head. There was a arms-length backwards dash to the shower (so I didn’t have to walk through the waft tail). I was left washing him down while hubby bundled up and threw out the resultant mess left on the change table. Thanks goodness for change-table liners!

It was actually my toddler. We were out in the bush when my son had to poo. No toilets nearby he had to go a la naturale, but as I tried to hold him in the squat position he stank that much that I started dry reaching!

When my son was younger, he did a very big explosive poo in his car seat. I was driving on the freeway in the rain. So I wasn’t too keen to pull over and change him. The poo was every where, even down to the socks! Lucky for Mummy that I had to wash my child, the car seat and deoderise our car with several cans of spray! After being changed my son was as happy as Larry
