When you’re pregnant designing your dream nursery is hard work, especially if you don’t know the sex of your baby. We found out we were having a boy at 19 weeks, if we had wanted to keep it secret we would have been in trouble because the first thing we saw at the anatomy scan was a very clear shot between the legs unmistakably identifying that we were having a son.

Even knowing we were having a boy I found creating a nursery hard, trying to balance form, function and budget. We luckily decided on a cot that converted to a toddler bed, Dexter has been in a toddler bed since he was 14 months old and we’re now considering the step to a big boy bed. If I thought designing a nursery was hard, putting together a big boys room is just as crazy. I want to create a room that’s fun, functional but will also grow with him, I want key pieces that can stand up to being swapped around and changed as he grows. Most importantly I want something relatively neutral so small changes can make it seem like a totally different room.
