Things We’re Trying – August/September

by Kyla on September 11, 2012

I’ve been a very sick chicky throughout August and despite the fact that I’ve been mainly using our bed, Hydralyte and the private healthcare system we’ve still managed to review some great products.

Pink Poppy

Home of everything pink and gorgeously girly, Pink Poppy specialises in accessories, gifts and sparkly products for your little princess or open-minded prince. There are items that are more traditionally boyish like dinosaur tails that roar and bat capes but the focus is well and truly on products to inspire joy in any little girl.

My niece, Miss 2 has been trialling the gorgeous Mermaid Tail with Sound and Rainbow Sequin Hairband and is totally in love with both of them, my poor sister has had to play mermaids for hours on end but the grin on Miss 2’s face as she dances around the room with that tail and the magical mermaid sound is amazing. I’ve been eyeing off the Dinosaur Tail with Sound for Dexter and will definitely be visiting Pink Poppy in future for all little girl birthday presents.

Wow Sugar Free Lollies

RRP $2.69

My nan is already a big fan of Wow Sugar Free Ice Mints and she was thrilled to be able to trial a few more flavours. Nan’s diabetic and has to watch her sugar carefully so it’s great for her to be able to indulge with sweets from time to time. Available in Coles, Woolworths and select pharmacies Australia wide, not only are these tasty treats sugar-free, they’re low fat, low GI, cholesterol free, plus free from artificial colours and flavours.

With nine flavours to choose from there’s something for everyone and they’re not just for diabetics – anyone looking for a healthier alternative to regular sweets should pick up a pack next time they’re at the shops.

Smooze Fruit Ice

RRP: $6.49 / box of 10

Smooze Fruit Ices are a super cute and very tasty 100% Vegan summer snack that’s a creamy combination of coconut milk, real fruit juices and purees in dreamy flavours like Pineapple+Coconut, Pink Guava+Coconut, Mango+Coconut and 100% Coconut.

Halal & Kosher Certified with as little as 65 calories per serve, they’re free from nasties like artificial colours & flavours, preservatives, cholesterol, trans fats and GM ingredients. Plus they’re dairy and gluten free so are a fantastic alternative to Ice Cream on a hot summers day. Dex is already loving these and I’m loving that I don’t need to worry about him missing out when the rest of the kids have ice cream.

Available from the dessert aisle of supermarkets and independent grocers Australia wide.

Endota Spa Body Bliss Pack

Every three months or so my sisters, mum and I visit a spa for a day of girly pampering and we usually go to Endota, so I was thrilled when I was lucky enough to win this pack from Laney at Crash Test Mummy in her fabulous birthday giveaway (do pop over and say hi to Laney, she has a great site).

This particular value pack doesn’t seem to be available online at Endota (do check with your local spa though). I love their products and can highly recommend any of their own-branded range, the in-spa cosmaceutical range (Dermalogica) is a range I used for 10 years and adored and of course I can’t say enough good about their absolutely fabulous in-spa treatments.

MOGO Charmbands & Accessories

Tween sensation Mogo is now available in Australia. These super cute bands, charms and accessories are set to be the next big craze. Already a hit in America and worn by tween idols and heartthrobs like Taylor Swift and The Jonas Brothers.

We received a MOGO Charm Band and Charm for my niece, Miss 7 to trial and she is loving being the first of her friends to have the newest craze. I’ve already had a few emails from school mums passed to me by my sister as the girls all love the mix and match charms and the ability to collect and swap. Miss 7 has already presented us with lists of the charms she likes just in case we are buying presents and has been hinting about how much she needs a new bag, purse or sunglasses – MOGO ones of course.

See Minette.com.au for stockists.

Elevit Guide to Conceiving

Quite a while back I was asked to contribute to the Elevit Guide to Conceiving and back in early August (before I fell ill) I was lucky enough to attend the Essential Baby Mums Morning Tea and the launch of the booklet. I had the pleasure of meeting Jody from Jo & Co and Steph from Bondville who were both super sweet and it was really lovely to meet with the teams who look after Elevit and Essential Baby.

If you haven’t had a read yet, do have a look through the booklet, there’s a bunch of good advice from some really lovely bloggers and some brave hubbies.
