[Closed] Win – Green Cleaning with Secret Scent

by Kyla on September 30, 2012 · 223 comments

You all know I try to make natural or toxin-free choices where I can, I think that most parents feel the same and that taking into consideration our budgets, the time factor and the severity/frequency of the purported toxic effects of chemicals in every day products we try to make the best choices we can for our families. It’s a balancing act and there’s a whole bunch of information and misinformation out there but there are definitely some areas where the switch to a natural alternative can not only lessen your exposure to toxic chemicals, it can save you a whole bunch of money at the same time.

Chemical cleaning products are expensive and if you believe the marketing you need a new product for each job around the home. I mean really, why would your bathroom need a different cleaning solution to your kitchen? We chucked the creams, gels and sprays a while back in favour of bicarb, water, vinegar, eucalyptus oil and a bit of good old fashioned elbow grease and haven’t looked back.

There’s a whole bunch of natural oils that can aid in cleaning around the home and the Secret Scent Green ‘n’ Clean kit is a fantastic place to start for your first introduction to natural cleaning.

The Green ‘n’ Clean kit includes four essential oils, bicarb soda, a spritzer bottle and a microfibre cleaning cloth along with instructions and recipes for a whole bunch of different tasks around the home from cleaning the oven to removing mould and unclogging drains, there’s even a recipe for getting rid of ants and cockroaches naturally.

Even though we already clean naturally I found the Secret Scents Green ‘n’ Clean pack to be extremely handy, the sprizter is a really good size for cleaning around the home and has a couple of recipes right on the bottle for easy access, and the four natural oils that are included (Wild Citrus, Lemongrass, Lavender & Breathe Easy – an aromatherapy mix of Eucalyptus, Lemon Myrtle, Peppermint & Thyme) are a welcome change to the eucalyptus I normally smell around the home.

I have two Secret Scent Green ‘n’ Clean Packs valued at $45 each to give away, for your chance to win simply visit secretscent.com.au and then leave a comment here to tell me your favourite product from their store and your top tip for green cleaning.

This giveaway ended on 31st October 2012.

Vinegar, water and a small amount of dishwashing liquid is great for cleaning windows and much cheaper, healthier and more environmentally friendly than window cleaner.

I’ve been after a great scrub. I love the look of the Pink Grapefruit and Himalayan Salt Scrub.

Place a bottle of vinegar, lid pierced, in the toilet cistern. With each flush you use less water & the vinegar is a great germ killer. Smells fresh too.

Gave email. Motherhood essential oil. Fill a bucket with water for cleaning, save just running taps all the time to clean.

91 Alex October 7, 2012 at 11:25 am

I am a huge fan of lavender so it would be the lavender essential oil.

My fave green cleaning tip is that lavender oil is a great antiseptic. We use it in our nursery bin – clean, combats even the worse smells & even helps the baby sleep!

92 Frances Goodrick October 7, 2012 at 11:46 am

Neck and Temple refresher sounds like a great way to feel good.

Top tip… 1 cup of bicarb and approx 20 drops of your fav essential oil/s. Shake over carpet/rugs liberally. Take the dog for a walk and come back and vacuum up. Leaves carpet smelling great without nasty chemicals.

Have liked beyond the bump and secret scent. Both great sites.

93 Jeannine Barrett October 7, 2012 at 12:17 pm

I love the Clay Face Mask from the Secret Scent Store.
My best green tip is for mould removal, 10 drops of Oil of Clove mixed in with water and vinegar, works really well. Just spray on, leave for 20 minutes and then wipe off. The oil of cloves has an added benefit in delaying the regrowth of mould as well.

Organic Argan Hair Oil to keep the frizz away and helps nourish the hair, we all need that that for our hair now that the warmer weather is coming, well I do anyway :)
My tip is to wash out the sink using lemons, I have an abundance of them this year and this has helped me to keep the smell at bay and has added a little shine as well.

Neck & Temple Refresher because I need the extra help some days :)
Green clean tip….. save all those rubber bands the postie drops near your letter box or leaves on your mail & use them to put around your newspaper wrapping (of your vegie scraps) so the paper doesn’t burst open in the bin. I collected the bands for months before deciding to use them.

My green cleaning tip would be using newpaper and vinegar for cleaning windows, just remember to go sideways on one side and vertical on the other so you can easily find which side any streaks or marks are left on :)
